What to enter
| Input | Meaning and units |
|---|---|
| Density (kg/m³) | Enter density in kg/m³; use the same basis as the other measurements. |
| Mass (kg) | Enter mass in kg; use the same basis as the other measurements. |
Understanding your result
Read Volume (m³) in the units and model stated on this page. The formula volume = mass ÷ density defines the relationship; measurement accuracy and model applicability are separate from numerical precision.
Common mistakes
- Mixing input units or changing the physical meaning of a variable without changing the model.
Check your calculation
- Use the worked example as a known reference case, then change one input at a time and check the direction and units of the response.

What is the volume given the density and mass?
Calculate volume from density and mass. Enter the two known values in the stated SI units and see the formula and result.
Common uses
- Find the unknown volume from two known measurements.
- Check unit consistency before using density, mass & volume.
How it works
Start with density = mass ÷ volume. Rearrange the relationship to volume = mass ÷ density. Enter density in kg/m³ and mass in kg; the result is volume in m³. Values must be nonnegative and any denominator must be positive. The model assumes consistent quantities and units. Use a uniform density or a volume-averaged bulk density for the stated material and conditions. Mass and volume must describe the same sample.
Worked example
Density: 2 kg/m³; Mass: 10 kg gives volume: 5 m³.
