What to enter
InputMeaning and units
Density (kg/m³)Enter density in kg/m³; use the same basis as the other measurements.
Volume (m³)Net volume in cubic metres. Convert cubic units before entering the value; outside dimensions of hollow objects are not net material volume.

Understanding your result

Read Mass (kg) in the units and model stated on this page. The formula mass = density × volume defines the relationship; measurement accuracy and model applicability are separate from numerical precision.

Common mistakes

  • Mixing input units or changing the physical meaning of a variable without changing the model.

Check your calculation

  • Use the worked example as a known reference case, then change one input at a time and check the direction and units of the response.

What is the mass given the density and volume?

Calculate mass from density and volume. Enter the two known values in the stated SI units and see the formula and result.

Common uses

  • Find the unknown mass from two known measurements.
  • Check unit consistency before using density, mass & volume.

How it works

Start with density = mass ÷ volume. Rearrange the relationship to mass = density × volume. Enter density in kg/m³ and volume in m³; the result is mass in kg. Values must be nonnegative and any denominator must be positive. The model assumes consistent quantities and units. Use a uniform density or a volume-averaged bulk density for the stated material and conditions. Mass and volume must describe the same sample.

Worked example

Density: 2 kg/m³; Volume: 5 m³ gives mass: 10 kg.
